as part of artist Tomas Saraceno’s exhibition, Arachnid Orchestra: Jam Sessions, i conducted a brief research on spider behaviour and communication. based on collected data, i had written a new programme on Pure Data with various analogue and acoustic instruments in an attempt to communicate with the spiders within the exhibition space. the performance pursues the idea of a feedback mechanism between spiders and humans as a form of interspecies communication. it incorporates a set of microphones and speakers to transmit vibrations to the spiders, in the attempt that specific frequencies and rhythmic patterns will trigger a response.
Pure Data, cymbals, snare drum, no-input mixer, fan, soldering iron, small speakers
