As part of an ongoing obsession on feedback as a concept, I developed an instrument purely out of feedback. It primarily consists of a snare drum and a floor tom, with contact microphones and speakers used to produce feedback on the drums, using them as acoustic chambers. The work is by and large an attempt to create an ‘undead’ instrument that would perpetually ‘exist’ but within a singular dimension without human intervention; one that is without dynamics, without intelligence and without any other function but to continuously produce feedback or a sound. I would say this much, the manner by which societies exist within these capitalistic times, reminds me of this perpetual state of being from time to time. Especially so when consuming all things new and intelligent remains a dominant cultural narrative.
